Be brave enough to live a life worth living — The Lee’s
The Brave Foundation was born in the quiet hum of monitors, the rhythmic hiss of ventilators, and the unshakable hope of two parents watching their children fight for life.
We are parents of two extraordinary micro-preemies, both born weighing barely a pound and arriving four months early. Together, they spent a combined 517 days in the NICU, enduring surgeries, procedures, and countless moments of uncertainty.
But our journey was not only about surviving inside hospital walls—it was about enduring the heartbreak of separation at home. Our oldest son was forced to navigate the confusion of watching his family torn apart not once, but twice, within only a four-month span. He never had the chance to welcome his siblings in the natural, joyful way most children do. Instead, he was faced with long explanations of why his brother and sister would be in the hospital for months on end, explanations no child should have to hear once—let alone twice. The weight of this experience pressed on every layer of our family, reshaping what daily life, bonding, and togetherness looked like for all of us. It was a rare and extraordinary current of events—two consecutive years defined by NICU life, with only a short breath in between.
Those days were not just numbers on a calendar—they were chapters of fear and faith, exhaustion and endurance, and above all, love and resilience. We witnessed firsthand how isolating the NICU journey can feel, even when surrounded by skilled medical teams.
Out of this experience came a calling: to turn our pain into purpose, our tears into tools of compassion, and our story into a bridge for others. The Brave Foundation exists so that every NICU family feels seen, supported, and strengthened—whether for a day, a month, or a year.
We know the road. We’ve walked it. And now, we walk it with others.
The Brave Foundation exists to uplift, empower, and comfort families navigating the NICU journey through trauma-informed outreach, practical support, and heartfelt connection. At the core of our work is The Brave Box Project - a high-impact initiative that delivers hand-packed gift boxes full of hope, resilience, and educational resources directly to NICU families.
A world where every NICU family is surrounded by a strong network of hope, resources, and community—turning moments of fear into stories of resilience.
